This is why I do not eat red meat.

Have you heard the news about the 22 year old woman who is now paralyzed after eating dinner with her family? She went into a coma after feeling incredibly sick. Her stomach ached and she thought she had a flu. The poor woman is now in a wheelchair because she ate a hamburger. You can read the full news story here. This is the biggest reason why I do not eat red meat. It's not safe. Granted you can also get e-coli from fruits and vegetables that are eaten before they are washed and from other foods. But, e-coli is generally contracted from red meat. The other reasons why I do not eat red meat is because I do not think it's healthy. I've done the research and choose not to eat it. I'm praying for this poor woman who used to be a dance instructor.

Grass fed beef is healthier, though. We do not eat conventionally raised beef- ick.

Thanks for stopping by, Jessica, and for your opinion on the grass fed beef. I put this post up on FaceBook too today and we had a nice conversation going there. Maybe, I'll do a post tomorrow and include the comments from everyone after getting their permission.

God bless!

Yikes! I'm seriously rethinking my willingness to eat beef and serve it to my children after this. I can't stand ground beef, but I do love to make beef burgundy stew... this is really scary.

Dear "My Chocolate Heart,"

Yes, it's scary. If you raise your own animals and know how they are cared for, that's one thing. But, getting beef from some of these plants that were mentioned in the article is dangerous, I think.

God bless!

The reason this woman got sick was not from beef, but from the way it was packaged and handled. Beef in and of itself is not unsafe. Try buying beef directly from a local rancher, they could use your support.

Anonymous,

You have a good point there. Buying it from a local rancher (if his or her place is clean) will avoid the problems at the big plants. I choose not to eat red meat for other reasons health as well.
